Meet the Designers: Sophie from Cirque du Bebe

Hi, I'm Sewphie, no, wait, Sophie! Some things you should probably know about me...I'm a mum, not a mom, which means I'm from Straya (Australia) but I don't like vegemite and I'm okay with this. Three and a bit years ago I began sewing for my two boys, with barely a straight stitch to my name and a pipe dream of one day being able to sew a hand-made closet to rival anything store bought. There's a lot of 'progress, not perfection' but determination, persistence and having one of 'those personalities' where you get hooked on things and can't let them go, pays off. Sure, it wreaks havoc in your personal life but these days my hand-made wardrobe is beginning to resemble stuff I'd actually buy. So that's a win. And strolling around shopping centers as a recreational activity has lost all appeal, unless it's to get ideas for sewing! I am completely utterly out of my little tree to be joining these talented ladies for the first ever Project Sewn. It's just the encouragement we all need to 'fit your life vest first' and sew beautiful things for ourselves. Which, last time I checked, was still just called 'sewing' and not selfish sewing!

  2. Sophie, I love how you describe the lost appeal of "strolling around shopping centers." When I see expensive garments I like in a store now, I just think, wow, i could make that for so much less money! and then i go do it. awesome! can't wait to see what you sew!

  7. Love it, someone I can relate to here in OZ and the seasons are the same! I too wanted to fill my wardrobe with great clothes that I can make, but it would appear my daughters wardrobes look better than mine and they are cheaper to sew for!! Beautiful fabric is so expensive here in Straya so it will be great to see what you come up with :)
