A Holiday Sew-along!

We had so much fun with our August Sew-Along that we thought it would be fun to do another one for our Winter Wardrobes...and so...we gladly announce the Talea Coat Sew-Along!

We absolutely love its Classic Feel with the modern details of the oversized collar and the bits of military inspiration....but you could really take the basic coat and make it whatever you would like and wear!  It really can fit so many fashion styles....

We  also love that you can make this coat out of wool, gabardine, or even a home dec weight fabric and do so many things with the linings.....the options are endless!

It is a FREE pattern from Burda Style (thanks Burda Style!) and is already sized from a Woman's size 8 up to a Woman's size 18.  But you could grade it up or down if needed.

Head HERE to get all the fabric amounts and details and then we will open the linky party at the end of the week and keep it open through December (or maybe a bit longer) so that you will have plenty of time to sew.

We can't WAIT to see what you do with the pattern.
And of course we will have some fantastic and fun prizes along the way---because we are all about prizes!

P.S. Are you in for some winter coat sewing for you (or Spring coat if you are in the southern hemisphere--wouldn't it be a darling rain coat)?

  5. I am a bit confused on the fabric requirements. Is the whole thing lined or just the sleeves?
    Thanks.

    1. From the way I read it, only the sleeves are lined....but I am actually lining my whole coat (like a paperbag lining).

  6. I was going to make a coat this year! Unfortunately it won't fit now and I'm too sick to actually accomplish anything. But I'm excited to follow along! Maybe next year. :)

  7. My Norton security says the file is high risk and won't let me download it :(

    1. That is weird. I have Norton too and it didn't say anything and I downloaded it and printed it already.....can you bypass it somehow?

  8. Love this design! I need a mid-weight coat so I'm hoping to find a good wool blend or maybe a substantial home dec fabric. I can't wait to see what others make! When is the sewing deadline?

  9. Hi, I can not get the pattern test square to measure exactly 4 inches. It is 1/16th" off in both directions. I saw on the Burda website that this is not uncommon. How do I fix it? I have tried all the recommended fixes, setting my print functions, scaling, etc...I believe my printer is set up correctly. Any suggestions??

    1. Can you add 1/16th inches onto the pattern itself? (It is too small or too large?) Or maybe take smaller or bigger seam allowances than it says. I haven't measured my test square yet....but I will let you know when I do.

    2. I just went back and read and it said this,

"Measure the sides of the test square with a ruler, each side should be 10cm or 4" (actual length is 3 15⁄16"). " So I think you are right on!!!!! Maybe a muslin to test it? I am going to make a muslin and use it as my lining before I do my real coat.

  11. If you do make a lining would you mind posting a tutorial? Or do you know of one? For some reason my mind has a hard time wrapping itself around a lining
