Meet the Designers: Sophie from Cirque du Bebe

Hi, I'm Sewphie, no, wait, Sophie! Some things you should probably know about me...I'm a mum, not a mom, which means I'm from Straya (Australia) but I don't like vegemite and I'm okay with this. Three and a bit years ago I began sewing for my two boys, with barely a straight stitch to my name and a pipe dream of one day being able to sew a hand-made closet to rival anything store bought. There's a lot of 'progress, not perfection' but determination, persistence and having one of 'those personalities' where you get hooked on things and can't let them go, pays off. Sure, it wreaks havoc in your personal life but these days my hand-made wardrobe is beginning to resemble stuff I'd actually buy. So that's a win. And strolling around shopping centers as a recreational activity has lost all appeal, unless it's to get ideas for sewing! I am completely utterly out of my little tree to be joining these talented ladies for the first ever Project Sewn. It's just the encouragement we all need to 'fit your life vest first' and sew beautiful things for ourselves. Which, last time I checked, was still just called 'sewing' and not selfish sewing!

Meet the Designers: Jess from Me Sew Crazy

Hello!  My name is Jess Abbott, the Sewing Rabbit, and I am the author behind the sewing blog Me Sew Crazy.
I have been hand sewing ever since I was a little girl, when my Mother instilled a love for cross-stitching in me. But I didn't really pick up the sewing machine until my eldest daughter was born. That was nearly 7 years ago, and I haven't put it down since.  There were a lot of ups and downs, including many upside down set in sleeves and necklines that were too small, but they all helped me understand and develop my skills.
Blogging entered the picture about 2.5 years ago when my sister encouraged me to start sharing my sewing creations. I soon fell in love with the art of story-telling, and marrying these two passions has absolutely fulfilled my inner need to create.
Since then my husband and I created SewSet, an on-line sewing pattern and tutorial search engine.  And I have also started the Girl's Night Out Blogger Get Together, a quarterly event that travels around the nation bringing sewing & craft enthusiasts together in an intimate setting to meet, laugh, and connect.

With three young kiddos running around things can definitely get crazy in our house, but luckily with a fully supportive and amazing husband - everything manages to stay knitted together.

I am honored to be here competing in Season One of Project Sewn!

A Sewing Studio Giveaway and an Announcement!!!

As some of you may (or may not) know we are the ladies behind Project Run and Play.  But it hasn't always been that way.

We competed in Season 2 and loved every second of it---the themes, the sewing, and the other women in the competition.  Back then there were no prizes---it was just sewing for the love of sewing.  And love it we did.  For us it was sewing heaven.  So when we had the chance to purchase Project Run and Play we jumped at it and have been having a wonderful time over there making changes, starting a sew along group, and adding prizes ever since.  We love having a place dedicated only to sewing children's clothing.

But almost from the beginning we knew that Project Run and Play would need a sister site.
Behind the scenes Elizabeth and I always have more sewing going on than just children's clothing...although we rarely share it...you see, we both enjoy sewing for ourselves.  Sure, we give you sneak peeks of our sewing every now and then but we've kept it pretty much wraps until now.  Today we are officially launching Project Sewn.  A site dedicated only to sewing women's clothing!!!

And because of that launch we want to do a HUGE giveaway!!!!

See how huge?

One lucky person is going to win almost everything they need for an entire sewing studio.  (You supply the table and we have most of the rest of the things you will need to start making beautiful things!)  The retail value of the prizes is well-over $650 dollars--seriously great stuff!!!!

The winner will receive:

*A SINGER One Sewing Machine
* 50 Spools of Coats and Clark Thread
*One fat quarter bundle from Riley Blake Designs
* An Olfa rotary cutter and cutting mat
*And a SINGER dress form

The winner of this contest must have a US or Canadian mailing address to enter (you can apply if you are international if you know someone that will pay to mail it to you.)

You MUST enter the contest through Rafflecopter below (if you are leaving a comment about the post to enter---it still has to be done in Rafflecopter).

The giveaway will run until Wednesday, May 8th at 11:59 p.m. (MST).

Good luck everyone!!!!

A New Project.

Elizabeth and I are so excited to unofficially launch Project Sewn today!
(We will "officially" launch the site next week with a dreamy giveaway and some other excitement.)

Ever since taking over Project Run and Play we have wanted to start a companion site that focuses solely on women's garment construction.  We knew we wanted something similar to PR&P but all "grown up".  So here's how things over here will work:

Project Sewn will be a 4 week competition with 6 designers.  Each week the designers will be given a theme to design and sew their clothing garments on.  Also, like PR&P each week the designs will be opened to a popular vote.  Although over here there will be no judges, each week contestants will be scoring each others work.  (Won't that be a fun twist?)

And similar to PR&P, the week's votes and scores will be combined to determine a winner and who will be "sent home".
Of course there will be amazing prizes and a sew along group.

And...tutorials, tips, and fashion posts in between competitions.
It should be a good time.
No, it should be a great time.

We can't wait to get started!

In the meantime, if you want to link up a favorite garment that you've sewn for yourself please do!  We would love to see what all of you out there are making for yourselves!
