The Talea Coat Sew-Along!

It's time for the linky party for the Talea Coat Sew Along!!!  And don't worry, if you haven't had time to start (at least my pattern is printed)---you still have time.  Remember the pattern is free and the fabric possibilities are endless, so if you have time we would LOVE for you to join us.
We will leave the linky party up until December 8th, so you still have plenty of time to sew.
And we would love to see your "in action" photos as well.  Feel free to add a link about what fabrics you are using if you haven't started.  I know I love to see posts like that.
So let's see what you have been working on.....

A Holiday Sew-along!

We had so much fun with our August Sew-Along that we thought it would be fun to do another one for our Winter Wardrobes...and so...we gladly announce the Talea Coat Sew-Along!

We absolutely love its Classic Feel with the modern details of the oversized collar and the bits of military inspiration....but you could really take the basic coat and make it whatever you would like and wear!  It really can fit so many fashion styles....
We  also love that you can make this coat out of wool, gabardine, or even a home dec weight fabric and do so many things with the linings.....the options are endless!
It is a FREE pattern from Burda Style (thanks Burda Style!) and is already sized from a Woman's size 8 up to a Woman's size 18.  But you could grade it up or down if needed.
Head HERE to get all the fabric amounts and details and then we will open the linky party at the end of the week and keep it open through December (or maybe a bit longer) so that you will have plenty of time to sew.
We can't WAIT to see what you do with the pattern.
And of course we will have some fantastic and fun prizes along the way---because we are all about prizes!
P.S. Are you in for some winter coat sewing for you (or Spring coat if you are in the southern hemisphere--wouldn't it be a darling rain coat)?

Favorite Winter Trends: Jen from icandy

So happy to be here on Project Sewn today! What a great blog.  I am obsessed with Project Runway, and so when liZ and Elizabeth created this site, I was SO EXCITED!

Anyway, these fabulous girls have invited me to talk about a favorite fashion trend for this winter. I thought about some of my favorite things right now, like booties...
but in the end, surprising even me, I want to talk about what I am loving right now- and never thought I would.

Plaid.  Yep.

I am loving plaid.  Especially comfy plaid shirts.
They are the perfect wardrobe staple this fall/winter.

Here are some great ways to wear them:

With leather and/or graphic tees:

Loose and blousy with skinnies:

With a maxi:

With heels:

Really- the options are endless.

Favorite Winter Trends: Mandy from Sugar Bee

Hi everyone. My name is Mandy. I blog at Sugar Bee Crafts. And I'm a Project Sewn addict.  :)

Really, I'm super weak for blog contests, and I'm super weak for amazing sewing - so of course this blog is awesome.  And what a fun series - favorite fashion trends.  The thing is - I'm not fashionable at all! I was super excited to participate today, but also at a loss since I'm not very fashion-forward.

But what I want to talk about today is for anyone - fashionable or not!  Patterned Leggings.  Bam.  Now don't immediately get turned off - they can be awesome.  And even I have a pair.  And I think you should try some.  Look - doable:
I checked with my fashion go-tos, and yes, Patterned Leggings are here for another season.  They were in-fashion last year, but I'm normally only in vogue enough to jump on a fashion trend in it's second year, so I'm glad this is back.
And I'm embracing it.  Here's why:
--Have you ever put on a pair of leggings?  that's why.  Very comfy.
--Fun - the pattern brings some fun to the whole look.
--Mom-friendly - an outfit that looks pulled together but wears like sweatpants - that's what all moms need.
So from my perspective, you have to keep a few things in mind:
--Rear coverage - you know what I mean!  Longer tops are a must.
--Plain shirts - since the leggings have pattern, you want a plain top - a denim shirt is awesome (as above) and I think oversized sweaters and cardigans are also great.
--Boots - wearing boots pulls in the fall/winter aspect and polishes off the look.
--Accessories - it doesn't need much, but maybe throw on some big earrings to top off your outfit.

Since this fashion trend is in it's second season, it's easier to embrace - it's not so "out there" and more people are on board, which makes it easier to give it a try and not feel too crazy doing so.  Go grab yourself a pair of patterned leggings and enjoy the awesomeness!

Favorite Winter Trends: Shannon from Little Kids Grow

Hi everyone! It's me, Shannon, from Little Kids Grow.

Okay, so before I start talking about my favorite winter trends for this year, I feel the need to express to you that I have ABSOLUTELY NO PLACE to wear these garments. Ha! Ha! But, they inspire me. They get my creative juices flowin' and spark my imagination for how clothes can truly transform.

For this 2013-2014 winter season, my eye has definitely been drawn to SHAPE. I'm always fascinated when designers can take something as simple as a sleeve and turn it into a work of art, like this lovely dress below by Alexander McQueen.

And, do you see the beading on those shoes? Wow! (Shoe shapes are another fascination of mine, but they deserve their own post, so I'll save that for another time.)

Jackets are a favorite fall/winter staple in my closet. I'm a HUGE fan of tailored jackets and they are usually just what I need to pull a look together. The following jackets are not the "final piece" to an outfit types. Their SHAPE definitely makes them the conversation starter.

Great SHAPE is not always limited to stiffer fabrics. It can also be found in softer fabrics that are cut perfectly to drape more fluidly while retaining their shape. This is evident in the contrast between the two-piece dressing from Christian Dior vs. Valentino below.

And, finally, my personal favorite is the element of surprise. Is it a coat? Is it a dress? I don't know, but it's amazing! From fabric selection to feathers, it takes skill to create a garment SHAPE that has an ambiance of its own.

Thank you for allowing me to share my picks for this winter season. Hope yours is a great one!

Favorite Winter Trends: Simple Simon and Company

BRRRR.  Is it cold where you are?  This week it is forecasted to be cold and we had even a few snowflakes off and on that means that winter is on its way.

And to start our Winter Clothing Season we have asked some friends to share some of their favorite trends from the Autumn/Winter collections this season.

So, to start off.....let's talk coats this season.  I love it when fashion designer take a classic style and turn it on its head into something else and here are some of my favorites that I have seen from the Autumn/Winter 2013-2014 collections.

I love these classic trenches with a twist....
Capes and cloaks are still in full fashion swing.....
And the brightly colored coats are fun.....
Any trends you have found that can get on board with?  Any you can't?
