Love it or Leave it: The Maxi

Spring is upon us and that means maxi season.
Maxi skirts and dresses have been all the rage for several seasons now and we are wondering:

Are you still loving them or are you ready to leave them?

  1. Loving them more than ever! I just cut one out last night to sew today :)

  2. Maxis are cool, I love them, but not very practical in the office environment.

  3. Loving them- especially that one on the right- I might have to make myself a copy of that one!

  4. Never liked them, ready to see them disappear forever. I find them too hot, too dowdy, too too...

  5. I love maxis, but I'm honestly not sure how to wear them well! That's one of my big goals for the spring/summer - to figure out how to wear maxi skirts and dresses in a professional way, so I can get away with wearing them to work :).

  7. Love! It's pretty much the perfect thing to wear for our hot, humid summers. Plus no one wants to see my blindingly pale legs. (I don't tan, I burn, so extra sun protection is great!)

  8. I love it. Hope it stays around a long long time.

  9. Love! I wish I could find some long enough tho! I've made a few, but my sewing skills are not quite awesome enough for me to want to wear them all over creation!

    1. Go to Long Tall Sally. They have a few maxis for taller ladies.

  10. Ick, they make me feel like an old lady.

  11. I love them, but have not found one that looks great on me. I am pear shaped, and have tried different maxi styles with no success yet.

  12. Love the Maxi for it's ability to cover up the knobbly knees and the pale legs, but I think 3/4 or ballet length suits my short stature better. If anyone can suggest a flattering style of maxi for a flat chested, round tummied mother of 2 I would be eternally grateful.

  13. I love them! They only got really hot in Belgium last year, so we still have years to come *yay*. I'm planning on making a maxi skirt with matching top. Then I can wear it as if it was a dress but also separately! It will be really nice.

  14. Not so much in love with them! I've had enough of tripping over long hems every time I stand up, but they still look great! X

  15. They're too impractical for my lifestyle, don't think I've ever had one.

  16. Leave 'em. Just doesn't work on my short frame. And no good for getting around on a bike!

  17. Still have not got a single maxi in my wardrobe. I just doubt how they would work on my 5'1" frame.

  18. Love them. Don't care if they are "in" or not. Don't care if people say short, curvy girls shouldn't wear them. Who wants to have to shave their legs every single day?

  19. I've always loved them, specially when the hot weather arrives, and I don't have a tan yet, or my legs are not presentable ;-) they are fresh to wear, elegant for work and make a wonderful figure. I think they are above fashion waves, one can always wear one... here an example I wore to a weding:

  20. LOVE! I find them so great to travel in.

  21. I'm always late to trends so they're "new" to me and I love them. I'm short 5'1" and thought it would be an overwhelming amount of fabric, but it turned out to be perfect for errands around town. I don't wear skirts to work (sometimes need to work in a lab environment where I'm climbing over/under things), so that's a non-issue, but I think the way I picture them they are a little casual for an office setting.

  22. I wore them in Junior High, so I opted out this time around. I might make one, but only for at-home lounge wear.

  23. A newcomer to the party, but now love them!

  24. Leave them.I am just too short and I think they often look dowdy. But workaholic came out with a very cute version that I am considering.

  25. Loving them more and more! And so does my teen daughter, so there'll be a lot if maxi going on here this spring/summer

  26. love them even if i am short. so comfy!!!

  27. thanks so much for sharing this with your readers! i'm in central Texas and live in maxis all spring and summer long. i agree with the ladies above and feel that they aren't suitable for the traditional office cultire. if you work in a creative environment or are 100% self-employed - of course you can get away with it.

  28. Do not like them. Not for me and I think they look ridiculous in the office.

  29. Love them. Not really office wear, but who cares? They are so comfortable, and for a perpetual skirt wearer, its perfect for the days where I don't want to shave my legs!

  30. I have a couple and wear them, but they get hot! That's my only complaint, though. I like the variety. :-)

  31. I would say leave them but I'm sort of thinking they are a classic now. Like the circle skirt or the pencil skirt. But they are not particularly inspiring anymore. A typical mall look. But if done in great fabric they pass my test.

  32. I always have and always will LOOOVE maxi dresses and skirts - I don't care if they're in fashion or not, they suit me and make me feel fabulous - so versatile too, depending on the bodice style and fabric choice :)
